I had a lot of positive feedback from the recent post on Diaspora with client-side encryption. For those of you who are somewhat technically inclined, and like to support a privacy forward future, don’t hesitate to download and support Retroshare. From their website:

RetroShare is a Open Source cross-platform, private and secure decentralised communication platform.
It lets you to securely chat and share files with your friends and family, using a web-of-trust to authenticate peers and OpenSSL to encrypt all communication.
RetroShare provides filesharing, chat, messages, forums and channels

Basically Retroshare does everything that one might want to do privately, using models that privacy idealists support, and it’s open source, so if you’re a developer you can audit the source code. In order to get Retroshare working, you’ll need a working copy of GNU Privacy Guard as well:
